Ole Carstenson, father of Mrs. P. M. Olson of Bratsberg died at the home of his daughter, Monday evening last at the age of 78. He settled in Norway township before the war and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. Mrs. Olson is the only surviving child and his good wife passed away several years ago. The funeral will take place next Tuesday.
Ole Andreas had several brothers and sisters, and descendants of some of them are still living.
Ole Andreas Carstensen b. 1816 on Hunset Farm, Namdalseid s. of Beitstad parish, a neighboring commune to Stod commune. Ole Andreas and Pauline Arntsdaughter Wennes , b. 1809 on Veines Farm, Kvam s. Stod p. got married on April 9, 1838, in Solberg Church, Beitstad, when both of them were servants on Ulstad Farm, Beitstad. At that time they used the surname Ulstad. In the early part of the 1840s the couple started up the little farm, but in the long they couldn't earn their living there, so they emigrated to the new world. By giving notice of their emigration to the authorities they then used the surname Mindrem.
Ole A. Carstensen's passport. I think this is some unique in Norway. In my many years reading and searching in public archives, document and books I have never seen anything like this.Kjell Saxvik, letter to Ralph and Lorraine Anfinson, 6 Mar 1990
