  Notes	In youth, having a taste for the sea, he made a voyage to the West Indies, but on his return he went with his brother Ebenezer Keeler to Vermont, from where he removed to Essex County, N.Y. and settled near Crown Point as a farmer, where it is supposed he married Abigail Skeels, who was born in Central New York April 5, 1777. In 1829 he exchanged has farm there for a Soldier's Land Warrant, which was located on the banks of the Mississippi River, in the State of Illinois. In time the improvement of the West attracted many Eastern farmers to that more fertile soil, and David Keeler, with his family thought to settle upon their Illinois land, and started to go there. When they reached the Valley of the Whitewater in Franklin County, Ind., he died, Aug. 21, 1846. What transpired in the history of his children for several years after the death of their father could not be ascertained by the compiler. David Keeler, Jr., served in the War of 1812 in Capt. Sanford's detachment of the 8th Regiment, New York Militia, his enlistment dated Aug. 5, 1812, and his discharge Dec. 3, 1812. He was a man of short stature and great physical strength. [1]
