- Blanche W. James, 90, of 21 Becraft Ave., Greenport, died Saturday at her home. She was born in Abilene, Texas, March 13, 1892, daughter of the late P.T.J. Walls. She was the youngest of nine children. She had lived in the Greenport area for 30 years. Mrs. James was a well-known businesswoman in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas where she owned Brasher and Jones, a women's apparel shop. She was widow of Henry James who was publisher of the Hudson Daily Star, served in the assembly and was long active in the Columbia County Republican party. Surviving are several nephews and nieces, including Dorothy Kirk of Abilene and Thelma Walls of Fort Worth, Tex. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. from Bates and Anderson Funeral Home, Hudson. Interment will be in St. Johns Episcopal Cemetery, Stockport. There are no calling hours.
