- Lester James, 55, passed away last Wednesday at Community Memorial Hospital, Winona, following a one day illness. Employed by Hector Construction Co., Caledonia, he was born July 11, 1916 to George and Christy James and married Marian Johnson in Winona in 1943. He attended the Rushford Public School and was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Survivors are: his wife; a niece, Kristy Roppe and a nephew Rockwell Roppe, Winona; a sister, Mrs. Karl Hursa, Janesville, Wis. His parents, a sister and brother have died. Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 4 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, the Rev. Kenneth Umbshocker officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Clarence Nielsen, Harris Lien, Jake Jacobson, Roy Mechtel, Earl Smith, Leo Rustad. Pallbearers were Vernon Burke, Harry Arnold, Harold Jacobson, Jerry Henze, Frank Halvorson and Earl Anderson. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.
