      James W. Marshall was born in the town of Eaton, Nov. 26, 1820. He was a son of John and Jane Connor Marshall. James began to earn his own living when very young. He worked out by the month in his boyhood days. When he was 16 years old, he received $5.50 and his board per month. When 32 years old he purchased a farm in the town of Eaton. In 1888 he sold the farm to his son, moved to Oneida and bought a home on Main St. After having settled on his farm in 1852, James married Susanna Tackaberry, daughter of James and Anna Tackaberry, natives of Wicklow, Ireland, and residents of the town of Eaton. Susanna died in July, 1885. In 1889 James W. married Mrs. Jane Forrester. Susanna and James children were: 1. Anna L., wife of Fred J. Stringer of Canastota. 2. Fred W., who married Ada Potter. In 1894 they lived in Stockbridge and had 2 children, Franklin James and Fred Burton. 3. Charles Burton. 4. Melvin who was a stenographer and typewriter in New York City. 5. Franklin James died at the age of 24, and 6-7 died in infancy. James W. was one of the largest hop-growers in Madison County. [6, 7, 8, 9]
