  Notes	James Martin Overland, 88, of Postville, Iowa, died Monday at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville. Mr. Overland was born Aug. 12, 1915 in Rushford, Minn., to Edward J. Overland and Olga Smeten Overland. The first of four children, he attended schools in Minnesota until his family moved to Postville where he graduated from high school in 1935. In 1938 Mr. Overland purchased the Allamakee Hatchery, making him the youngest owner and operator of a hatchery in Iowa at the time. On Sept. 12, 1941, he married {Margaret Jean Markley }in Waukon. The couple had five children together. Together, the coupole developed an acreage south of town, which included their home, their hatchery and feed store, and a facility for laying hens for commercial egg production. Mr. Overland was active in the community, serving as a town councilman, volunteer fireman, and memvber of Commercial and Kiwanis clubs. He also held offices in the Iowa Poultry Association and St. Paul Lutheran Church. He was proud of his Norwegian heritage and loved returning to Highland Prairie, an area settled by his ancestors, for visits with his relatives. He enjoyed cutting wood, smoking his pipe, visiting with customers and watching westerns. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mark James; a sister and husband, Genevea and Elmer Schuyker, and his brothers Ernest and Robert. [4]
