Elling Pederson Dahl went by the name Elling Pedersen Thangen. He was listed as "Schoolteacher Elling Pedersen Thangen under Sondre Fahrsjoe". In 1855 Elling is titled shoemaker with the address of Stilnaestg. In 1858 he is called a "husmann" with the name of Tangen, S. Fahrsjoe. In 1861 he is titled schoolteacher only now his last name is "Helle". Elling and Kisten were married about 1840. The children were born in Sannidal except Mary who was born in MN. Elling Pederson Dahl and his wife Kisten Halvorsdtr Solberg Dahl along with their children two boys and five girls emigrated to America in 1862. Elling bought 40 acres 3/4 miles north of Bratsberg a little Hamlet in Norway Township. Elling taught Norwegian school at Highland Prairie until retiring and moved to Rushford and lived there until he died.
Lisa Hakes letter of 1995 says "Elling Dahl and his wife, Kristen Dahl, came to America in June of 1861 and settled in Highland Prairie."
DAHL— At his home in this city, Sunday, October 14th, 1888, of dropsy, Elling P. Dahl, aged 72 years. Deceased was one of the early settlers of this county and was for years a prominent farmer in Norway township, but last year he sold out his farm interest and moved into the city. He leaves a widow and eight children to mourn his loss; the children are grown and married except two daughters who reside here with their parents. Funeral occurred yesterday, the 17th and was numerously attended by the friends of the family.
