    • FRANCIS M. DARR, JR. passed away peacefully in the morning on Sunday, the 4th of May 2008, in the presence of his beloved wife of 55 years, Barbara, at the age of 79. Born on the 26th of September 1928 in Chicago, Illinois, Frank was raised in St. Louis and Kansas City, Missouri, and became a professional engineer. While serving in the US. Army he met and fell in love with Barbara Dillon of Texarkana, Texas, married her, and moved to Houston to start his family. His career soon focused on the business of mechanical engineering, as President of T. L. Walker Bearing Company for many years, Frank was distinguished by his integrity and sense of fair play. After retiring, he was able to thoroughly enjoy his family, friends, and hobbies, which included math and word puzzles, astronomy, and tending his rose garden. He cherished games of Texas Hold'em, watching the waves roll in at the beach, and sharing good jokes with friends and family. Frank could repair anything, with workmanship that was always both excellent and elegant. His gift of humor was a source of wonder, and he remains an inspiration to all who had the pleasure to know him. Frank has a list of amazing accomplishments. He rescued a small business and made it flourish thanks to his drive, and his pride in his work. Diagnosed with lung cancer at age 55, he fought it with determination and will power, beating the odds. He was the city handball champ, with lifelong friends he made in the sport. He was a role model to his children, instilling a love of learning, an appreciation of math, logic, and the well chosen word, and, most of all, teaching the satisfaction that comes from a job well done and a life well lived. Frank was the head of an extended family who will always love him dearly. He is survived by his four children; Deborah, Michele, Francis III, and Michael; four grandchildren, Sonia, Thomas, Kathryn, and Tiffany; his brother William, and his mother of 101 years, Margaret. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o'clock until seven o'clock in the evening on Thursday, the 8th of May, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. Immediately following the visitation, a Christian Wake Service will be conducted by Deacon John Pelletier of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at half past ten o'clock in the morning on Friday, the 9th of May, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 10330 Hillcroft in Houston, where the Rev. Msgr. William L. Young will serve as celebrant. Honored to serve as casket-bearers are Bill Darr, Frank Darr, Mike Darr, Yves Simon, John Baker, and Lindley King. Serving as honorary casket-bearers are Doug McClaren, Lou Payton, Charles Dillon, Joe Fuentes, and Brad Bradley. Immediately following the mass, all are invited to join the family in a reception being held in the Servant Hall of St. Thomas More Catholic Community. The Rite of Committal will follow, via an escorted cortege, at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway in Houston. His last wishes and thoughts were of great love for his family and friends. [3]
