    • Will made January 16, 1696
      In the name of God Amen. I Richard Applen of Woolland in the County of Dorsett Husbandman being weake of body but of perfect mind and memory, pray soe to Almighty God do make and ordayned this my last will and testament in manner my sould into the hands of Almight God my maker. Hopeing in and through the merritts of Jesus Christ my Savior to have free pardon and remission of all my sins and misdoing that all men must dye and the tyme when mankind does speak with the temporall Estate which God hath endowed me with as followeth.
      Item, I give to my sonne Richard Applen one shilling of lawful English money. Item, I give to my sonne John Applen one shilling of lawful English money. Item, I give to my sonne Thomas applen one shilling of lawfuul English money. Item, I give to my daughter Joyce Applen one shilling of lawful English money.
      Item, I give to Anne Thornhull the wife of Thomas Thornhull one shilling of lawful English money. All of which said several legacyes herein before mentioned, my will is that they be paid by my Executrix hereafter named within one month after my decease.
      Item, all the rest of my moneys, goods and chattles whatsoever not herein before given or bequethed I give and bequeath to my now loving wife Elizabeth Applen whom I doe make and ordayn my whole and sole Executrix of this my Will the paying and discharging all my debt legatyes and funeral expenses whatsoever in witness whereby I the said Richard Applen have hereunto set my hand and seal and published and declared the same to be my last Will and Testament the present Twentyoth Day of January in the Eighth Year of the Reign of our Sovereign and Lord William the Third now King over England et al Anna Domini 1696.
