- Amel Peter Harker, 90, of Montgomery, Illinois, passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 2, 1991 at Copley Memorial Hospital in Aurora. He was born on September 27, 1900 in Bristol, Illinois, the son of Anthony and Susanna Harker. He attended a country school in Bristol Township. He was united in marriage to Lorene Paris on May 17, 1923. They made their home in Batavia, Illinois. He worked as a brass molder for 23 years at the Challenge Wind Engine and Pump Co., Shumways Foundry and Sperry's Foundry. He belonged to the Molders Union of Batavia. Amel and his family moved to Montgomery in 1946. In 1951, Amel returned to his first love of farming in which he spent the next 15 years of his life in Sycamore and Sugar Grove. Upon retirement, they returned to Montgomery. Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Sylvia (Henson) Harker; one daughter, Joyce Nodruff, of Montgomery; one son, Donald (Reba) Harker, of Aurora and one stepson, Chet Henson, of Muncie, Indiana; four sisters, Francis Burton, of Elgin, Illinois, Margaret Greyer, of Sugar Grove, Madeline Nickels, of Sugar Grove and Tressa Goodale, of Mesa, Arizona; nine grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Lorene (Paris) Harker; his daughter, Betty (Stan) Ellis; a grandson, Amel P. Harker at birth; his parents, Anthony and Susanna (Goschey) Harker; seven brothers, Peter, John, Theodore, George, Matthew, Ferdinand and Oliver Harker. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 6 at the Dieterle Memorial Home. The Rev. Paul Graham will officiate with burial in River Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the Dieterle Memorial Home. Memorials may be made to the Montgomery United Methodist Church in his memory.
