    • Gregory Max Van Doren, Esq., age 61, of Manassas, passed away October 8th, 2009 peacefully at his home.

      Born October 30th, 1947 in Los Angeles, Calif., he was the son of Louise Reynolds Van Doren and the late Max L. Van Doren. On January 23rd, 1971 in Upperville, Va., he married the former Barbara Claire Davidson.

      Greg attended the University of Richmond and graduated from Dickinson College in 1970, received his J.D. from Duquesne University School of Law in 1973 and his L.L.M. from George Washington University National Law Center in 1977. He started his law career as an appellate attorney in the U.S. Army JAG Corps from 1974 - 1977, and later worked for the United States Navy as a Civilian Counsel. He has been an Assistant Commonwealth Attorney for Prince William County, a partner in the Law offices of Robeson, Robeson and Van Doren, and most recently Lead Prosecutor for the City of Manassas Park and the Lead Counsel for the City of Manassas Park Dept. of Social Services and the Sole Practitioner of Gregory M. Van Doren, Esq., Attorney at Law, in Old Town Manassas.

      His Bar Admissions include the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and U.S Court of Military Appeals in 1973, the U.S. District Court Eastern District of Virginia and the Virginia Bar Association in 1977, and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court Eastern District of Virginia in 1980. Along with the Virginia State Bar, Greg was a member of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. He was a Past President and was currently serving as the Treasurer of the Center for the Arts of Greater Manassas, a present member of the Board of Directors of Historic Manassas, Inc., the past Chairman of the Board of Didlake, Inc., a member of the Board of Directors of Community Services, a member of the of the Rotary Club of Manassas, #5816 and a member of the Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manassas. In 2006, Greg received the Best of Attorney - Northern Virginia award from the News and Messenger.

      He was preceded in death by his father, Max L. Van Doren and his uncles, Lloyd W. Reynolds and Dr. James Jett. Survivors include his beloved wife of 38 years{, Barbara C. Van Doren of Manassas}; his mother{, Louise R. Van Doren of Las Cruces, New Mexico}; one sister{, Gretchen M. Van Doren of Sunspot, New Mexico}; one brother{, Douglas L. Van Doren and his wife, Ann, of Freehold, N.J.}; one nephew{, Christopher Van Doren and his wife, Chrystal of Dallas, Texas}; one niece{, Cara Van Doren Wilner and her husband, Mark of Seattle, Wash.}; two aunts{, Helen Jett of New Mexico; Barbara Reynolds of Reisterstown, Md.} and six cousins{, Tom Reynolds, Nan Kane, Melissa Nagowski, Jamie Jett Walker, Tami Conlee, and Kim Luck}.

      The family will receive friends on Monday, October 12th, 2009 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Baker-Post Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Rd. Manassas. Funeral Services will take place on Tuesday, October 13th, 2009 at 4 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeffrey Wilson officiating. Inurnment with military honors, will take place at Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday, November 18th, 2009 at 2 p.m.

      Memorial contributions may take the form of a donation to The Center for the Arts for Greater Manassas, 9419 Battle St., Manassas, VA 20110, and Historic Manassas Inc. , Attention: Patty Tracy, Executive Director, 9366 Main Street, Manassas, Virginia 20110. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Baker-Post Funeral Home and Cremation Center, under the direction of Michael Post. [2]
