The body of William H. Sloane was returned to Akron last Saturday for funeral services and burial. Mr. Sloane, a former Akron man, was residing at Olava, near Fairplay and wandered away from his home several days before he was found in a snow drift. The body was found between a tie camp and Fairplay and death was attributed to exposure. Although he was not found until Wednesday, April 9, it was thought that he had been dead since April 5. The family formerly resided on a farm in the Buttes community. William Henry Sloane was born in Burlington, VT Dec. 21, 1880. He was affiliated with the Episcopal church. In his early childhood, his parents moved to Omaha, NE where they opened the first general store in South Omaha. In 1901, Mr. Sloane was united in marriage to Blanche Ginder. In 1906 he and his family came to Akron to make their home. Mr. Sloane operated a small store and was employed by the railroad company. In 1919 he was appointed postmaster and served in that capacity for two years. To the union of his first marriage were born three children: Blanche Ella, William G. and Charles H. Sloane. Mrs. Sloane departed this life June 21, 1919. In 1920 Mr. Sloane was united in marriage to Pearl Myers. They resided on a ranch near near Fremont Butte. To this union were born three children: Floyd H., George E. and a baby who passed away in infancy. The last few years of Mr. Sloane's life were spent fishing and hunting in the Colorado hills which he loved, and leading the kind of life which he had always hoped would be his lot-- a life spent among the hills and along the streams of America's Last Frontier. Mrs. Sloane preceded him in death Dec. 28, 1927. He leaves to mourn his passing his sons: William of Greeley, CO; Charles H., who is serving with the US army, now stationed at San Antonio, TX; Floyd H. of Sterling, CO; and George E. of Holyoke, CO; one daughter, Mrs. Blanche Kimblom of Alliance, NE; one grandchild, Mrs. Edwin Joppa of Hillrose; two daughters-in-law; and a host of friends.
