First Red Cross Nurse
Married This Morning
Miss Amanda Lewis Stewart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Stewart of 42 Montgomery street, and Davis Handy Stone, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin B. Stone of Northampton, were united in marriage at St. John’s Episcopal church this morning. The ceremony was performed at 11 o’clock by Rev. Marshall M. Mott, rector of the church. The bride is one of this city’s Red Cross nurses and is the first of them to marry.
Miss Helen Stewart, a sister of the bride, was the maid of honor and the groom’s attendant was the bride’s brother-in-law, Fred L. Bradford. The bride wore a taupe suit with hat of the same color and her attendant was attired in a dark blue suit and hat.
Mr. and Mrs. Stone left on the noon train for New York city. They are to make their home in Brooklyn, N. Y.
The bride has always made her home here. She graduated from Drury high school after which she attended Bishop Memorial Training school in Pittsfield, graduating from that institution in 1911. She practiced her profession in Pittsfield and at the outbreak of the war, offered her services to the Red Cross. In the fall of 1917, she was sent to Camp Gordon, Atlanta, Ga., and the following fall she went overseas. The winter of 1918, she spent in France and Luxemburg, most of the time in Evacuation Hospital No. 13. She returned to her home here last June.
Mr. Stone is now a member of the Army Transport service and is quarter-clerk on the U. S. A. Transport “Princess Matoika.” He served in this same service all during the war.
