"About the next day after the second Bull Run fight, I became insensible either from a fit or a sunstroke and fell down, was taken to the convalescent camp where I stayed for some time and after which I never did duty. I have had trouble in my head ever since, but which trouble was greatly aggravated by the falling of a stick of timber about four years ago this spring, while I was working near where it stood; said timber then struck me on the left side of the head, and since which time I have been unable to follow my usual occupation."

General affidavit of Nicholas Shultis, resident of Clarksburg, MA, filed 29 March 1907, regarding pension application of Peter Post, states "that I was born in Greenport, NY in 1840 and in 1850 when I was 10 years old the Post family moved into our town and became neighbors to us. David Post was just my age. We played together, was classmates in school, served together in the Civil War, as did also Peter Post. When I first knew Peter Post he did not live at home, he was a man grown and worked as a deck hand on a boat on the Hudson River. He must have been six or seven years older than David. There was three other Post children older than David and younger than Peter (these however are all dead long ago). Have known Peter ever since and I have lived for many years in next town to him only 2 miles apart."
Peter Post who was last paid at $15 to Mar. 4, 1908, has been dropped (from pension roll) because of rept'd death May 8, 1908
General affidavit filed by Peter Post 30 Mar 1907, "that with reference to my age, there is not in existence any record of my birth, either public, baptismal or family. The summer of 1835 has always been in my mind as my birth time. I suppose this date was impressed on me by my parents and other members of my family, it also agreed with ages of other children older and younger than myself, for instance my brother David 6 or 7 years younger than myself (three others between us). On my Sept. 16th 1861 enlistment in Co. K, 14th NY Vols. my age appears as 26 years which was right. On my enlistment in Co. C. 1st N.Y. Engineers in Sept. 1864 my age appears as 27 years which is wrong. How they got that age is more than I can tell. With the exception of my brother David who a few years ago was alive at that time in Arkansas somewhere the rest of them are all gone.
