On Wednesday, June 6, 1892 Mrs. Harriet E. Dauchy, wife of our esteemed and long resident citizen, Wm. Dauchy, passed to her eternal home. For several years past Mrs. Dauchy has suffered from a tumor. During all this time she had been patient and cheerful and hopeful, making the home bright and homelike for her husband and his brother, even though unable to move about or do much work. For some weeks past she has been a great sufferer, the tumor having grown to enormous proportions, so that she could no longer eat and could scarcely breathe and must soon die from starvation or strangulation. So by the request of Mrs. Dauchy herself and also of her daughter who is a physician and nurse, and by the request and approval of both her husband and his brother, a surgical operation was performed last Tuesday. While she experienced great relief and comfort from the effects of the operation, yet her strength rapidly declined and on Wednesday morning she peacefully passed away. Mr. and Mrs. Dauchy had lived happily together fifty-three years, and in his loneliness now he has the heartfelt sympathy of hosts of friends. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. D. S. Fletcher at the house, on Friday.
We have received a copy of the Rushford, Minn. Star, containing an obituary of Mrs. Harriet E., wife of William Dauchy, who died on June 6, after a painful and lingering illness. She suffered from a tumor, and a surgical operation was performed from which she did not rally. She was 70 years of age. The deceased was the eldest sister of our townsman, Mr. Francis C. Raymond, and always lived in New Canaan until about 30 years ago when she moved west with her husband, who was also a resident of New Canaan. About fifty years ago he was engaged in the manufacturing of carriages here with Bradley Keeler, and their factory stood where the old Town House now stands. Mrs. Dauchy will be remembered by our elder residents as a lady possessing many noble traits of heart and mind, and they will be pained to learn of her death. [4, 5, 6, 7]
