- Funeral services for Roy James were held last Saturday afternoon, March 7at 2:00 o'clock at the Rushford Lutheran Church, where he was a member. Pastor Foehringer officiated. During the services, Mrs. Myron Forsythe sang "The Old Rugged Cross," "In The Garden" and "The Beautiful Isle of Somewhere". Burial was made in the Rushford Lutheran cemetery. The pall bearers were Carrol Julsrud, George Betz, John Sennes, Arwin Overby, Rudolph Paulson and Harold Johnson. Royal Dexter James, son of George and Harriet James, was born April 20, 1883, at Rushford, and passed on to his eternal resting place on March 3, 1959, at the age of 75 years, 10 months and 4 days. Death followed an illness of about two years. Mr. James was a lifelong resident of Rushford, and was employed as a delivery man for grocery stores here. On January 13, 1905, he was united in marriage to Christine Laumb, the service being performed by the Rev. Sidney Smith of the Episcopal Church. To this union seven children were born, six of whom survive to mourn his passing, one son, Gordon, having died in 1955. He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Catherine, Mrs. Clarence Niggle of Rushford; Edna, Mrs. Conrad Olness of La Crosse; Verna, Mrs. Robert Betz of Rushford; three sons, Melvin and Martin of Rushford, and Vernon of Mabel; and his only brother, George James who is a patient at the Halvorson Bell home in Houston. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; also three great grandchildren. Also numerous nieces and nephews survive. Preceding him in death, besides his one son, were two sisters, Caroline, Mrs. Conrad Eggen, and Nellie James of Rushford. The flowers and wreath we place upon our fathers grave may wither and decay, But the love for him who sleeps beneath will never fade away.

Mr. and Mrs. Royal D. James celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, Jan. 10, 1954 with a 4:30 buffet supper at the Clarence Niggle home. Forty members of the immediate family were present. A special guest was Mrs. Molly Christiansen, Winona, one of their attendants of 1904. Mr. and Mrs. Ole Laumb, the other attendants, were unable to be present. Christine Mathilda Laumb and Royal D. James were married Jan. 11, 1904, at the Dauchy residence by the Rev. Mr. Smith of the Episcopalian Church. Their seven children are Melvin James, Mrs. Clarence (Catherine) Niggle, and Martin James, Rushford; Gordon James, Burlington, Iowa; Mrs Conrad (Edna) Olness, La Crosse; Vernon James, Mabel; Mrs. Robert (Verna) Betz, Rushford. They have eight grandchildren. Assisting at the anniversary gathering were Mrs. Melvin James and Mrs. Martin James, pouring, Mrs. Vernon James, guest book, and Mrs. Clarence Niggle, who cut the wedding cake.
