    • RUSHFORD, Minn. — Alf G. Mindrum, 84, of Rushford passed away Monday, April 20, 2009, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.
      Alf was born July 9, 1924, to Palmer and Margit (Landsverk) Mindrum. He was raised in the Rushford and Houston, Minn., area and graduated from Houston High School. He married W. Doris Evans on Sept. 2, 1944. Alf worked as a butcher and meat cutter at Peterson Locker for 21 years. He worked for Skifton's Meat Market in Houston for 6 1/2 years. Alf also worked at Holty Feed Mill, drove truck for Midland Oil Co., and worked at the Rushford IGA for 23 years until his retirement.
      Alf enjoyed John Deere tractors, woodworking, spending time with his family, teasing his grandchildren and speaking Norwegian to the nurses and aides at the nursing home because they didn't really know what he was saying. Alf was a member of Bethany Evangelical Free Church in Houston.
      He is survived by his wife, Doris; six daughters, Catherine (Kenneth) Bakkum of Rushford, Sheryl (Marty) Krahenbuhl of Elma, Iowa, Andrea (Ardell) Lee of Rushford, Bernita (Mark) Salmon of Winona, Minn., Leanne (Glen) Sedlmayr of Stoddard and Marita Newgarden (Allen Frisch) of St. Charles, Minn.; 15 grandchildren, Kendall Bakkum, Caryn Butler, Dean Bakkum, Sara Ptacek, Daniel Salmon, Kristin Kelley, Laura Salmon, Bryan, Jenna and Aaron Lee, Christopher and Lacie Newgarden, Lydia Johnson and Abbey and Sadie Sedlmayr; 14 great-grandchildren, Kayla, Ashlee, Hunter and Annika Bakkum, Jayde Butler, Zach and Betsy Bakkum, Tori VanDyke, Alessa and Drake Bakkum, Landon Lee, Kieran and Kayden Kelly, and Margaret Salmon; three brothers, Paul, Arne and Ellert (Jean) Mindrum; two sisters, Freida (Ron) Nowland and Ellen Olson; as well as many nieces and nephews.
      Alf was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law; one niece, Rebecca; brother-in-law, Maelyn Olson; and two sisters-in-law, Nancy Mindrum and Janet Mindrum.
      There will be a funeral service for Alf at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25, at Highland Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Peterson, Minn., with the Rev. Wade Davick officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Evangelical Free Cemetery in Houston. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hoff Funeral Homes n Rushford Chapel and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

      Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Mindrum, who were married Saturday at the Bethany Evangelical church by the Rev E .N. Reierson, are at home on the Marland Evans farm, South Ridge. The bride is the former Doris Evans, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Silas Evans. The bridegroom is from Money Creek. Attendants were Miss LuCylle Hoppel and Malyn Olson. The bride wore a gown of royal blue velvet. Her only jewelry was a gold locket, a gift of the bridegroom. Miss Hoppel wore a black and white dress and a gold bracelet, a gift of the bride. Both the bride and bridesmaid wore corsages of pink roses and white pompons.
